Have you ever wondered what it would be like to literally take a nap with the fishes? Wonder no more! There is an actual hotel that accommodates this ideal, and it is in Africa!
As a diver, you are already one of the few, lucky people to have had the opportunity to explore another world. The underwater landscape is truly unique and has a lure that keeps divers coming back for more. Sometimes, this fix is not enough and divers find themselves seeking out more obscure diving places. There is a perception that you have to traverse the globe in search of these surreal dive spots, but some of these can be found right on our doorstep.
The Underwater Room at the Manta Resort on Pemba Island, Zanzibar is a testament to the fact that one should never question the bounds of human ingenuity. The room lies 250m from the shore and is completely isolated, allowing guests to really live within a marine environment as it is anchored to the sea floor 4m beneath the ocean’s surface.
In a nutshell, this is a floating island-hotel in the beautiful Indian Ocean that allows you to interact with the underwater realm for longer. The three-tiered suite includes a roof deck and a deck at sea level, complete with lounge and bathroom. The dream hotel is finished off with a third level – an underwater bedroom that is surrounded by windows that afford a panoramic view of a nearby reef filled with marine life. In the evening, spotlights around the bedroom windows attract and illuminate the marine world (at which point the marine creatures are lured towards the bedroom windows).
So, if your dives always seem to be over too quickly, leaving you contemplating the age-old dive problem of wanting to spend more time submerged in bliss, but unable to do so, this is the perfect place for you! Better still, you do not have to travel far to experience this marine life lover’s dream.
